After receiving many inquires from fans on her weight lost secrets, Janet Jackson is planning on collaborating with her nutritionist, David Allen, to release a weight loss book. This is a good move for Janet, considering that she always manages to quickly get back into shape. I am sure we all can recall about two years ago when pictures surfaced of a not so fit Janet.

The book is due out towards the end of this year--just in time to work off that holiday weight.

Andre to Have Clothing Line?

André Benjamin (a.k.a. André 3000) likes short shorts. Short basketball shorts, that is, the kind players wore back in the seventies, the kind that end perilously high up the thigh, the kind that Kobe Bryant recently said made him feel “violated” after the Lakers played a half in throwback uniforms. Benjamin pulls off the look with some flair in Semi-Pro, the latest sports-themed comedy to roll off Will Ferrell’s assembly line. He plays the inventor of the alley-oop, and “by the time we started filming, the shorts were like a second skin to me,” he says. “It seems like you can cut through the air a little bit better in them.”

Not only is Benjamin unafraid to show a little skin—“If you’re tough, and you don’t give a shit, the seventies were so cool,” he says—he’s also something of a sports-uniform historian. “If you look at old football pictures,” he says, “the jerseys were hanging, the sleeves were dangling, but now everything is tucked and tailored.”
Such images, drawn from college football circa 1935, inspired his new clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, thanks to a documentary he stumbled across on TV one night. Consisting of 70 pieces, the line is currently self-funded (he’s looking for a partner) and, he hopes, will be at Barneys in the fall. Benjamin is a fashion autodidact: He has taken advice from Anna Wintour (who invited him to a Met gala), he has sketched the clothes himself, he has been to Italian factories and Parisian textile fairs. (And by the way, if you’re missing his primary career: He’s also working on a solo album for the fall.)
That mix of application and instinct carries over to his personal style. It takes a certain serenity to rock the resplendent Bixby outfit he recently wore to a Fashion Week party: wide-brimmed fedora, green waistcoat, buttery brown leather riding boots (“vintage”) that pushed his pants up, jodhpur style. He looked more like a wealthy, eccentric caballero than a thirties jock toff, but then, he wants the line to tell stories. Benjamin Bixby, he says, “is a character who’s kind of like your uncle, or your granddad, and he has a closet full of experiences and clothes, and he’s been around the world.”
It’s tempting to call Benjamin a dandy, but the word doesn’t quite go far enough—he’s more experimental than that. He’s worn pretty much everything during his OutKast career, from garish plaid to polka-dotted bow ties to pimp furs to turbans to leopard hats to military gear to golfwear.
But as he grows older—“In the hip-hop world, 32 is like being an uncle”—he’s returning to his classical roots. Other Benjamin Bixby pieces, like a pink sweater with a giant emblazoned B, continue a long-standing hip-hop fascination with preppy style that includes the nineties appropriation of Tommy Hilfiger and Phat Farm’s urban take on Ralph Lauren. Growing up in Atlanta, Benjamin was part of a “prep crew” at school with noted butler Fonzworth Bentley. “It was all about being a prep. It was about ties and saddle shoes and Guess overalls and stuff like that.”
Tearing pages out of magazines as a kid left Benjamin with a reverence for English style: He fetishizes “timeless” clothes, name-checks old-school brands like Turnbull & Asser, and calls his own style “classic spontaneity” or “rebel gentleman.” What this means, in effect, is doing a little remix. Here, he’s wearing a Façonnable shirt with Polo khakis and a tie from his new line worn as a belt. “There has to be something inventive about it,” he says. “But not so inventive that it’s a turnoff. So that some of the greats, like Beau Brummell or the Duke of Windsor, would nod and say, ‘Well done.’ Those guys killed it.” Now, that’s hip-hop.

Look closely and think hard. You may recognize Keri Hilson from her guest spot on Xzibit’s 2004 hit Mean Muggin’ (Hey Now) and, more recently, on Timbaland’s worldwide smash The Way I Are. But don’t be fooled by her stunning good looks and pop chick persona because this sister is so much more than just a pretty face. With an unrelenting work ethic that’s made her one of the most sought-after songwriters in the business, Hilson’s credits read like a who’s who of contemporary R&B. Think Usher, Ciara, Chris Brown and Toni Braxton, to name a few. At 25, Hilson’s an industry vet who’s making the transition from behind the production console into the limelight. And she proves there’s no such thing as an overnight success. Having been in singing groups since the age of 14, Hilson worked her way up the ladder, honing her craft as a writer while perfecting her vocal skills. With hard work, perseverance and no shortage of talent it wasn’t long before she came to the attention of über-producer Timbaland, who signed Hilson to his label on the strength of a phone call. Her debut album In A Perfect World . . . is due out later this year.

Q: What can we expect from your album?

Well, it’s a good mix of everything. It’s what you know from me as a songwriter and also as an artist. Of course, the Timbaland influence is there. Timbaland and his protégé Danja and Polow produced the whole album. It’s one congruent sound. It’s like a movement. Definitely like nothing you’ve heard. It’s hard for me to describe my songs just because I’m close to the music. I do know that, from a songwriter’s perspective, it has the components to be a great album and do very well.

Q: What kind of music will it be?

In the same way that you can’t really pigeonhole anything Timbaland works on—like Justin (Timberlake), those are R&B songs but he’s a pop artist, they have pop appeal. I’d say it’s kind of like a girl Justin Timberlake with a little more soul and R&B.

Q: Will it be a concept album? What will the songs be about?

The album is called In A Perfect World . . . and by that I mean no one’s world is perfect and mine is no different. I look like I have it all together but at the end of the day I’m a female, I’m emotional. I go through the same things that everyone else goes through and I just wanted my album to depict that reality because everyone has something about their world that they would change. So it’s based upon that idea and I didn’t wanna do an album that painted myself perfect. I’m far from it.

Q: What’s your relationship with Timbaland? How did you hook up with him?

Polow da Don introduced me. Timbaland had expressed an interest for Polow to look for a female R&B artist and Polow thought of me. At that time my second group had disbanded and I was just focusing on becoming a great songwriter. I didn’t feel the need during that time to pursue the artist thing full out, as I knew that something would happen because people knew if I was songwriting I was demoing my songs, and they heard my voice as much as they saw me as a songwriter. The Grammys will be coming on tonight at 8pm. I am honestly not that interested, but will only be watching for celeb fashion and to see Alicia Keys and Kanye perform. I also cannot wait to see how many Grammys Kanye will win. By the way, Beyonce is listed as one of the performers, but what could she be possibly performing? After all, her album is 2 years old...anyway that is a whole different story. However, I did hear that she is doing a duet with Tina Turner. Well, I guess we will see tonight.

The Clintons Downplay Obama

As you may already know, Sen. Barack Obama beat Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. John Edwards last night in the South Carolina primary. Obama received 55 percent of South Carolina’s support, while Clinton got 27 percent and Edwards 18 percent. However, to the Clintons, Obama’s victory in South Carolina is insignificant. Prior to the results of the primary, former President Bill Clinton was quoted as saying,
"Jesse Jackson won South Carolina in 84 and 88... Jackson ran a good campaign. And Obama ran a good campaign here."
It seems as though Clinton was not only insulting Obama’s campaign, but seemed to be implying that because Jesse Jackson had won the South Carolina primary in the past, South Carolina’s vote cannot be taken seriously. Based on this statement, and because South Carolina is known for its large percentage of Blacks that come out to vote in the democratic primaries, one can only conclude that the Clintons are in fact playing racial politics--which they earnestly claim to not be doing. There were in fact, a large amount of Blacks that came out to support Obama--55 percent of Blacks came out to vote, and of that percentage, 78 percent voted for Obama.
Regardless of the racial politics that the Clintons choose to immerse themselves in, Obama is taking it all in stride. He responded to Clinton’s statement with,
“ Jesse Jackson ran historic races in 1984 and 1988, and there's no doubt that that set a precedent for African Americans running for the highest office in the land," Obama said. "I think people want change. I think they want to get beyond some of the racial politics that, you know, has been so dominant in the past."
It must truly be difficult to be in Obama’s shoes. Sen. Barack Obama has a serious campaign, but as usual his race is taking precedent over his character. In Election 2008, I only hope that individuals can get past there own ignorance and truly see each presidential hopeful for their campaign, and not their race, gender or who their husband is. We should be voting for individuals whose beliefs coincide with out own.

We Remember Dr. Martin Luther King

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Day!

Today we remember the great man, Dr. Martin Luther King, and most importantly the dream that he had for all people of this nation. Although the Civil Rights Movement was many decades ago, this nation still struggles with racism and hatred.
It was just this Friday that the editor of GolfWeek was fired for insensitively displaying a noose on the cover in a joking manner. It was just last year that Imus called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “Nappy headed hoes”, that the incidents of Jena 6 occurred, that Watson made racist comments about Blacks and Hispanics , that “Kramer” went on a racist rant, and these are just to name a few. Indeed African Americans have come a long way.
However, this nation still has a long journey to go before it can truly claim to be free of racism and bigotry. Until then, we must continue to strive for that dream that Dr. King and other great Black leaders had.

Marion Jones Sentenced

Olympic gold medalist, Marion Jones was sentenced to six months in prison and 400 hours of community service at the United States Distrcit Court on Friday, for lying to federal agents about her use of performance-enhancing drugs.
"We’re disappointed for a such a harsh sentence,” her cousin, George Hulse said. “She had paid more than enough.”
The sentence Jones received was largely in part due to her alleged involvement in the bank fraud associated with the use of these performance-enhancing drugs. Prosecutors claimed to have a $25,000 check signed by Jones, and testimony of her involvement from many defendants.

The runway for the last couple of years has been filled with reinventions. We have seen fashion from the 80’s, 40’s , 50’s and 60’s come back in new, fun and inventive ways. Solange looked pretty stylish on Saturday at Jay Z's concert at the Pearl in Las Vegas. She managed to add a personal touch by adding a leather belt to her satin blouse/dress, and I love love the tights.

Sunday, celebrities come out to the opening of Jay Z's 40/40 club in Las Vegas. Mostly everyone looked great, but Vanessa Simmons definitely stood out. She debuted a short bob, and looked ever so classy in a satin dress accompanied with heels and a clutch.

Other fashionable celebs at the event included Lebron and his girlfriend, Jay Z, Neyo, Beyonce, Solange, and Claudia Jordan

On New Years Eve, celebrities showed up everywhere, and were sure to look their best.
Some standouts were Jennifer Hudson, Kim Kardashian (as much as I do not want to admit it), and once again Vanessa Simmons.
Jennifer looked stunning at the Setai Hotel in Miami Beach with a short bob, and in a fabulous winter white satin suit.

Kim Kardashian stood out with her beau in a fierce skintight designer dress. She hosted a New Years Eve Party at Mansion’s in Miami, Florida.

Vanessa Simmons looked most chic in this “Carrie Bradshaw” inspired dress at TAO in Las Vegas, where Mariah Carey hosted a New Years Eve celebration.

Other fashionable celebrities were Mariah Carey and Kelis at TAO.

Fabulous Designer Patricia Field

In honor of Sex and the City: the Movie being released in theatres in May 2008, I have decided to pay homage to Sex and the City stylist, Patricia Field.

Field began her reign in fashion in 1966 when she opened her first boutique in Greenwich Village. Her boutique quickly gained popularity, and became synonymous with urban New York City style. Field became known for her fashion forward pieces, and soon ventured into styling for television and film projects. She has styled for Crime Story, Wiseguy, Spin City, and Mother Goose Rock and Rhyme.

However, it was Field’s first encounter with up and coming actress Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of Miami Rhapsody that put Field at the height of her career. After working with Field, Parker fell in love with her work, and was sure to enlist Field for the styling of her Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw. Field’s work on the set gained the show notability for its avant-garde fashion, and gained Field her second Emmy award for Outstanding Costumes for a Series.

Since the Sex and the City series has concluded, Field has been busy at work. She has worked on the set of The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty. She has even opened another boutique on Bowery Street in New York City, and has made her fashions available for purchase online, www.patriciafield.com/

Raz B Takes Back Accusations

As I stated yesterday, this thing between Raz B and Chris Stokes is about to get even more weird. Well, it seems that after all the fuss that Raz B made, he is taking back his allegations. In a new You Tube video, Raz B states that the previous video clips where he accuses Stokes of molesting him were leaked without his permission, and that the accusations he made are false.

As you can see, Raz’s body language does not support his statements. He makes no eye contact with the camera, and it seems like he was forced to make the video.
I still believe Raz’s previous accusations. I just believe that because Stokes has more money, he was able to threaten Raz legally, or paid Raz to renege the accusations.

Update: Raz B's brother, Ricky Romance, has interviewed with Bossip, and he has some even more interesting things to add. In addition, he is claiming that Raz B has been missing for two days.
Okay, I don't know what to say anymore. Therefore, I will not report anymore of this story until I can honestly say I know the facts.

I recently ran across a crazy hat site, Artikal. The hats are to die for. If you are a fan of vintage hats then this is the site for you. The funny thing is I am not that crazy about hats, but I have fallen in love with this site.

There are hats for every occasion. Everything from casual, cocktail and even bridal pieces and veils. I must admit, I absolutely fell is love with the bridal pieces. If and when I do get married, I have decided that I want to wear a bridal veil from Artikal ( if they are even around when that happens).

Hmm...it seems like the situation between Raz B and Stokes is about to get real ugly. In a statement released this weekend, Stokes stated that he is prepared to stop this slander in any way possible and will be taking legal action.

I personally believe Raz B. I feel that there are few people that would make up being molested. However, his case does seem week due to the fact that his reality show is coming out soon and being that Stokes just recently stopped financially supporting Raz B. The only way Raz can strengthen his accusations is if others, besides his “strung out” looking brother, Rick Romance, were to come forth.
Well, I guess we will just have to see how this plays out.

Michael Vick Sentenced

RICHMOND, Virginia (CNN) -- Michael Vick, once one of the highest paid players in the National Football League, was sentenced to 23 months in prison for financing a dogfighting ring and helping to kill pit bulls that did not fight aggressively.
Vick's stunning downfall from NFL superstar to disgraced dogfighting defendant culminated Monday in a 90-minute sentencing hearing in federal court in Richmond, Virginia.
Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to his family and to the judge.

"You need to apologize also to the millions of young people who look up to you," U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson retorted.

"I am willing to deal with the consequences and accept responsibility for my actions," Vick continued, as about a dozen of his friends and family members looked on.
But Judge Hudson appeared to be unmoved. "I'm convinced it was not a momentary lack of judgment on your part. You were a full partner," he told Vick.

The judge added that he wasn't sure Vick had fully accepted responsibility for his actions. Supporters, including former baseball great Hank Aaron, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and the pastor of Vick's church sent letters while others called the judge's chambers.
Vick, 27, had faced a maximum of five years in prison. Federal sentencing guidelines recommended a sentence of 12 to 18 months.

Animal rights protesters lined up outside the courthouse. Some carried signs with photographs of dogs, while others read "Dogs deserve justice," and "Report dog fighters."
U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg said after the hearing that the investigation "exposed a seamy side of our society." He added, "I hope Mr. Vick learned important lessons and that his admission of guilt will speed his rehabilitation."

Vick and three co-defendants still face trial on state dogfighting charges in Virginia. They are accused of torturing and killing dogs and promoting dogfights -- all felonies that carry five-year maximum sentences.

"This is a difficult day for Michael's family and for a lot of us, including many of our players and fans who have been emotionally invested in Michael over the years," said Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

"We sincerely hope that Michael will use this time to continue to focus his efforts on making positive changes in his life, and we wish him well in that regard," Blank said in a statement released by the team.

In his August plea agreement, Vick admitted bankrolling the "Bad Newz Kennels" dogfighting operation on his 15-acre property in rural Surry County in southeastern Virginia.
Vick also admitted providing money for bets on the fights but said he never shared in any winnings.

According to court documents, dogs that failed to show enough fighting spirit or lost matches were executed. Some dogs died by electrocution and others by hanging or drowning.
Co-defendants told prosecutors that Vick assisted in executing the dogs, and that they "executed approximately eight dogs."
After initially denying any involvement, Vick acknowledged participating in killing the dogs in his plea agreement with prosecutors.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons star quarterback publicly apologized for his role in the dogfighting operation and unexpectedly turned himself in on November 19 to begin serving his prison term early. He has been held in a state jail in Warsaw, Virginia.

Last month, Judge Hudson sentenced Purnell Peace, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, to 18 months in prison. Quanis Phillips, of Atlanta, Georgia, was sentenced to 21 months.
A third co-defendant, Tony Taylor of Hampton, Virginia will be sentenced Friday. He was the first to plead guilty.

Peace, Phillips and Taylor entered plea agreements last summer under which they agreed to testify against Vick, prompting the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback to enter his own plea agreement a few days later.
Vick agreed to pay more than $928,000 for the care of some 54 pit bulls seized from his property.

Prosecutors also have disclosed the extent of Vick's financial ruin. According to court documents, the Atlanta Falcons are attempting to recoup bonus money from his 10-year, $130 million football contract, Vick is in default on a $1.3 million bank loan for a wine store, and two other banks have filed suits seeking repayment of a $4.5 million in loans and lines of credit.

Vick's home in the Atlanta area is on the market for $4.5 million, prosecutors said in court papers. The Virginia home where the dogfighting operation was based, assessed at nearly $750,000, is on the auction block, according to reports published over the weekend.
Vick's attorneys last month requested a jury trial on the state charges. It is set to begin in April.

FBI Looking for Missing College Student

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Those who know Latasha Norman describe her as a serious, smart student who was seen around Jackson State University with pad and pencil, covering stories for the campus newspaper.

They say it's out of her character to disappear without a word to her family and friends. She was last seen at the end of an afternoon class Nov. 13.
Campus and city police have fielded dozens of calls, to no avail. The FBI is now part of the investigation, bringing useful resources, especially if the search goes beyond Mississippi's borders, Special Agent Jason Pack said Wednesday.

"We're looking at the circumstances of the case, putting a fresh set of eyes on it and trying to come up with some leads so we all can bring her home safely," Pack said.
In recent weeks, Norman had been the target of attacks. Someone slashed her car tires and removed the vehicle's license plate. Her father instructed her to file reports with the campus police, and she did.

Last week, an ex-boyfriend of Norman's was charged with hitting her last month. He has withdrawn as a student from Jackson State, university officials said Wednesday.
Police say they have no suspects. Among those they have questioned are her current boyfriend and the ex-boyfriend.

Norman's father, Danny Bolden, is clinging to the hope that she will brought home safely. Bolden, a supervisor at a wastewater treatment facility, traveled from Greenville to Jackson as soon as he heard his daughter was missing.

Norman was 2 when her mother married Bolden, who said he's the only father she's ever known. Asked to describe Norman, he used the words "Christian," "humble," and "high morals."
The 20-year-old who grew up in the heart of the impoverished Mississippi Delta is working her way through school and has a job at a Jackson craft shop.
Bolden said she didn't receive a scholarship to college, but has a 3.5 grade point average at Jackson State.

Norman, a junior majoring in accounting, was assigned to the campus newspaper, The Blue and White Flash, as part of her work study, said Glenda Glover, dean of JSU's College of Business.
"Each time I saw her, she always had a stack of books," Glover said. "She's quiet. She didn't hang out."

Bolden said that during high school, Norman was involved in activities like band and the church choir.

But he added, "She really was a private type person, and she didn't associate with too many people. She wasn't like most young ladies that had a bunch of friend girls."
Andrell Harris, Jackson State's student body president, said he and Norman had been friends for about two years.

"We saw her on the yard a lot because (as a reporter) she was always in the public eye," Harris said. She said people could make Norman laugh "if you had a personality."
"I just hate for her family to go through a holiday season without her being there," she said.

Colures = Nirvana for Magazine Lovers

This summer I happened to go into Borders in NYC to see if there were any magazines that appealed to me, and as any minority can attest to, this is hard to find. Especially, since one of my favorite magazines Vibe Vixen folded(how sad). Anyway, I happened to run across a magazine by the name of Colures that comes from out of the UK .

The quality of the magazine was amazing. Everything from the pictures to even the paper was of high quality. It was similar to reading an Elle that appealed to black women only. I sat there for hours reading. It was my own personal nirvana.

Unfortunately, I was unable to buy it because my funds were low ( hey I was saving for my upcoming semester and it was not a part of my spending budget). Anyway, this magazine has stayed on my mind, and I am really thinking about subscribing to it.

The current issue features UK artist, Jamelia, and is filled with fashion previews, an article on America's Next Top Model winner Jaslene, hair and make up features and autumn trends for men.

Colures is awesome, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Fierce Fall/Winter 2007 Fashion Review

Just in case there are some of you that still have not gotten your wardrobe together for this fall/winter I have comprised a review for you. In fact, those of you late shoppers may make out better then the early shoppers because most stores are beginning to prep for the Spring .. Therefore, winter items will soon begin going on sell .( You know the fashion industry is always prepping way in advance for the next season.)

Okay so if I had to describe this season in one word it would be Retro . This season seems to be a melting pot of styles from the 80’s, early 90’s, 70 and 20’s . With this variety, fashion for this season is sure to be fun and exciting. There are bold colors, eye catching patterns and sleek and sexy shoes. So I hope to give you a feel for the looks of this season, and will hopefully get you eager to enhance your fabulousness.

Denim

Denim is going to be the most fun that it has been in decades because this year its about a variety of looks. There is going to be so much that you can do with denim. First lets start with skinny jeans. Skinny jeans were really big last year, and are going to be even bigger this year. This fall, skinny jeans are available high-waisted, in various colors, textures or patterns. They are a must have for this Fall because they look fabulous on just about every type of shape, especially curvy shapes.

Wide-leg jeans offer variety to a wardrobe. They are great for times when you want to look chic without much effort. They especially look great high-waisted in a dark colored denim.

Straight-leg jeans are a classic type of jean that will probably always be in season. Therefore, they are a great investment because you can count on being able to wear them next fall. They also look great on just about every type of shape.

Its all about the new revised pea coat. There is such a great variety of different cuts and patterns, such as tweed and wool. I must admit that it is very difficult to just pick one. I personally love the Houndstooth pattern and pea coats with a high collar. Another great thing is that you can find pea coats at a great bargain. However, this does take some bargain hunting.

This fall its all about accessories that accentuate the outfit. Accessories should tastefully add to your masterpiece , not interfere with it. This means that if you are already wearing a bold outfit, you don’t have to put on several bold accessories. Subtleness can go along way, especially with an already fierce outfit. So, for this Fall be on the look out for bold colored tights, skinny or wide vintage inspired belts that come in bold hues in either suede, leather or patent . For the hat lovers, there are cute berets and beanies. For the daring , there are knee length footless tights, fingerless gloves and long elbow length gloves in bold colors. As for jewelry , the must haves are long necklaces with unique charms, colorful bangles, gold and silver bracelets, and exotic rings.

Bags
When it comes to bags this fall, its all about clutches and big bags in deep colors, such as teal, royal blue, purple, mustard or chocolate. Big bags are great for us college and commuting fashionistas because they make it possible to carry heavy textbooks. laptops and beauty products. Yet, you can still look fashionable. However, this does not necessarily mean that your bag should be bigger then your body. A medium to large size bag still looks just as great.
